John Harkey

As I say above, I currently teach English at Georgia Tech. Prior to this, I spent 6 years stalking, trapping, and domesticating a PhD in the wilds of NYC, through the good offices of the CUNY Graduate Center. My field is poetry and poetics, with a focus on experimental writing and textuality. Thus, in one sense, I'm an obsessive, exuberant materialist with regard to humanities artifacts (collector, maker, displayer, handler); that is, I have a strong, intrinsic affinity with books and other more affective, analog technologies. BUT, I also love the way digital tools allow us to engage with images, language, objects, sounds, and each other in utterly new, dynamic ways. I'm not a "let's-go-paperless" utopianist, but neither am I a skittish crypto-luddite. Instead, I have a strong belief in the well-designed interplay (founded on an underlying complementarity) between digital and physical, analog engagement.
